Japan’s scrap exports up 11.5 percent in Jan-July

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, in first seven months of the current year Japan's scrap exports amounted to 5.36 million mt, increasing 11.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 598.362 metric tons in July this year, falling by 10.5 percent month on month and down 18.4 percent compared to July 2012.

In the first seven months of this year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 3.5 million metric tons, up 14 percent over the first seven months of 2012, while exports to China amounted to 1.63 million metric tons, decreasing by 6.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Vietnam imported 297,712 mt of steel scrap from Japan in the first seven months, more than double compared to the same period of 2012.
