According to statistics released by
Japan's Ministry of Finance,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports totaled 346,602 metric tons in April this year, falling by 22.08 percent month on month and down 49.99 percent compared to April 2010, affected by the earthquake and the tsunami which hit
Japan on March 11.
In April,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports to China decreased by 31.77 percent month on month to 138,548 metric tons, while a drop of 46.74 percent was registered compared to April 2010. South Korea imported 203,054 metric tons from
Japan in April this year, down 13.57 percent month on month and down 49.93 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period of 2011,
Japan's
scrap exports amounted to 1.77 million metric tons, declining by 32.66 percent year on year.
In the first four months of this year, Japanese
scrap exports to China totaled 727,368 metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 1.01 million metric tons, decreasing by 24 percent and down 35 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
