Japan’s new ship export orders up for second straight month in Sept

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in September this year increased by 14.9 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, rising to 17 ships totaling 908,639 gross tons. This is the second consecutive month of month-on-month increase in Japan's new ship export orders. In September 2011, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled nine ships with 243,900 gross tons.
 
At the end of September, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 117 ships, with a total tonnage of 5.7 million gross tons, falling by 7.6 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in September, Japan delivered 25 ships totaling 1.2 million gross tons for export, increasing from 20 ships totaling 790,948 gross tons recorded in August this year. In the first nine months of this year, Japan delivered 282 ships for export, totaling 12.8 million gross tons, decreasing by 2.2 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
