Japan's new ship export orders up 31.5 percent in January-August

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in August this year decreased by 21 percent on tonnage basis compared to July and by 31.2 percent year on year, amounting to ten ships, up from nine ships recorded in July, totaling 442,170 gross tons, all consisting of bulk carriers. In August 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 19 ships amounting to 642,584 million gross tons.
 
In the January-August period this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 273 ships with an aggregate of 11.62 million gross tons, increasing by 31.5 percent year on year. 
 
On the other hand, in August this year Japan delivered 12 ships for export, totaling 476,161 gross tons, decreasing from 27 ships totaling 1.02 million gross tons recorded in July. In August 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 19 ships with 642,584 million gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, Japan delivered 191 ships for export, totaling 7.86 million gross tons, decreasing by 12.6 percent year on year.
