According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in October this year decreased slightly by 0.6 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, to 17 ships totaling 902,790 gross tons. In both August and September of the current year, Japan's new ship export orders had increased on month-on-month basis. In October 2011, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 21 ships amounting to 854,570 gross tons.
At the end of October, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 134 ships, with a total tonnage of 6.57 million gross tons, falling by six percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in October, Japan delivered 27 ships totaling 978,063 gross tons for export, compared to 25 ships totaling 1.2 million gross tons recorded in September this year. In the first 10 months of this year, Japan delivered 309 ships for export, totaling 13.8 million gross tons, decreasing by 1.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
