According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in July this year decreased by 83.5 percent on tonnage basis compared to June and by 51.58 percent year on year, amounting to nine ships, down from 91 ships recorded in June, totaling 559,670 gross tons, consisting of five bulk carriers and four tankers. In July 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 35 ships amounting to 1.16 million gross tons.
In the January-July period this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 263 ships with an aggregate of 11.17 million gross tons, increasing by 36.38 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in July this year Japan delivered 27 ships for export, totaling 1.02 million gross tons, increasing from 25 ships totaling 993,551 gross tons recorded in June. In July 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 24 ships with 1.1 million gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year, Japan delivered 179 ships for export, totaling 7.39 million gross tons, decreasing by 13.33 percent year on year.
