Japan's new ship export orders decline in April from March

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April decreased by 11.76 percent on tonnage basis compared to March and were down 7.2 percent year on year to 22 ships, down from 30 ships recorded in March, totaling 1.36 million gross tons, consisting of eight bulk carriers. In April 2014, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 47 ships amounting to 1.88 million gross tons.

In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 78 ships with an aggregate of 4.7 million gross tons, decreasing by 30.5 percent year on year. 
 
On the other hand, in April Japan delivered 20 ships for export, totaling 702,381 gross tons, decreasing from 33 ships totaling 1.46 million gross tons recorded in March. In April 2014, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 22 ships with 848,240 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first four months of the current year, Japan delivered 117 ships for export, totaling 4.63 million gross tons, increasing by 1.3 percent year on year.
