Japan’s automobile output soars by 30.6 percent in May

Japan's automobile production in May this year was recorded at 708,453 units, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). The figure represents an increase of 166,171 units or 30.6 percent compared to the same month of 2009. May was the seventh consecutive month for which an increase on year-on-year basis was recorded.
 
Domestic sales in May stood at 356,148 vehicles, up 22 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year.
 
Meanwhile, the country's automobile exports rose for the fifth month in a row in May this year compared to the corresponding month of 2009, totaling 340,721 units, up 109,131 units or 47.1 percent. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $9.65 billion, including $6.99 billion for vehicles and $2.67 billion for parts. This revenue indicates a rise of 55.8 percent as compared to May 2009.
