Japanese crude steel output up 6.1 percent in May from April

In May this year, Japanese crude steel production was up 6.1 percent compared to the previous month, while it decreased by seven percent compared to May 2014, totaling 8.91 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
 
Meanwhile, in May Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.77 million metric tons, rising by 5.8 percent compared to the previous month and falling by 6.1 percent year on year.

In the first five months of the current year, the country's pig iron output stood at 33.71 million metric tons, down 1.8 percent, while its crude steel production came to 44.06 million metric tons, falling 4.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
