Japanese crude steel output down 1.8 percent in 2011

In December 2011, Japanese crude steel production decreased compared to the previous month, after having started in the month of January with a peak output level for 2011.
 
According to the data released by the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japanese crude steel production in December amounted to 8.4 million metric tons, down 8.4 percent year on year and falling by 3.4 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the country's pig iron production in December 2011 totaled 6.4 million metric tons, decreasing by 6.7 percent year on year and down 1.9 percent compared to the previous month of November.

Meanwhile, in 2011, the country's pig iron output stood at 81 million metric tons and its crude steel production came to 107.6 million metric tons, with decreases of 1.5 percent and 1.8 percent both compared to 2010.
