Japan's automobile
production in March this year was recorded at 945,271 units, according to the data provided by the
Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). The figure represents an increase of 393,200 units or 71.2 percent compared to the same month of 2009. March was the fifth consecutive month for which an increase on year-on-year basis was recorded. Meanwhile, in March
Japan's automobile output rose by 12.29 percent month on month.
Domestic sales in March stood at 674,494 vehicles, up 23.5 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year and up 47.2 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, the country's automobile exports rose for the third month in a row in March this year compared to the corresponding month of 2009, totaling 422,802 units, up 194,601 units or 85.3 percent. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $12.06 billion, including $8.98 billion for vehicles and $3.08 billion for parts. This revenue indicates a rise of 110.9 percent as compared to March 2009.
On the other hand, in the Japanese fiscal year 2009-10 (April 2009-March 2010) Japanese automobile
production amounted to 8,865,350 units, decreasing by 1,140,421 units or 11.4 percent year on year. This was the second consecutive year that a drop has been recorded.
Domestic sales for FY 2009-10 stood at 4,880,265 vehicles, with an increase of 179,486 units or 3.8 percent year on year, rising for the first time after four years of downturn, while the country's automobile exports came to 4,086,631 units, down 27.1 percent year on year. Japanese automobile exports declined for the second consecutive year. The revenue generated by these exports totaled $113.21 billion - down 16.3 percent, including $81.33 billion for vehicles and $31.88 billion for parts.
