Japanese auto output down 3.1 percent in 2013

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in December last year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 786,609 units, increasing by 85,668 units or 12.2 percent compared to the same month of 2012, constituting the fourth consecutive increase on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in 2013 Japanese automobile production decreased by 313,007 or 3.1 percent year on year to 9,630,070 units. 
 
Domestic automobile sales in December last year in Japan stood at 423,210 vehicles, up 25 percent as compared with the same month of 2012. In 2013, Japan's domestic automobile sales increased by a slight margin of 0.1 percent year on year to 5,375,513 units.
 
In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in December amounted to 379,276 units, down by 20,373 units or 5.1 percent year on year. In 2013, Japan's automobile exports decreased by 2.7 percent year on year to 4,674,667 units.
