Japan sees decline in steel exports

Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that Japan's steel exports fell 21.6 percent year on year to 2.33 million metric tons in November 2005. Japan's steel exports to South Korea fell 23.4 percent year on year to 528,175 metric tons in November, while those to China decreased 27.8 percent to 366,798 metric tons. Furthermore, Japan's steel exports to the US fell 26 percent to 93,249 metric tons. In addition, Japan's steel exports to Taiwan fell 3.8 percent year on year to 278,048 metric tons in November. Exports to Thailand rose 38.4 percent to 252,424 metric tons.
