Japan sees decline in steel exports

Data from the Japanese Iron and Steel Federation show that Japan’s steel exports fell 4.2 percent year on year to 2.43 million metric tons in October 2005. Japan’s steel exports to South Korea fell 4.2 percent year on year to 635’129 metric tons in October, while those to China decreased 6 percent to 430’629 metric tons. Furthermore, Japan’s steel exports to the US fell 9.8 percent to 104’655 metric tons. On the other hand, Japan’s steel exports to Taiwan jumped 42.6 percent year on year to 306’942 metric tons in October. Exports to Thailand rose 20.5 percent to 334’833 metric tons.
