Italy’s crude steel output up 5.7 percent in January-March

According to the figures released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in March this year Italian crude steel output rose by 4.5 percent year on year, totaling 2.691 million metric tons.

In the first three months of the current year, total crude steel output in Italy reached 7.386 million mt, with an increase of 5.7 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
Federacciai also released Italy's long and flat steel output data for February. Accordingly, in the second month of 2012 Italy's long steel output was down 4.9 percent to 1.08 million metric tons, and its flat steel output rose by 8.9 percent reaching 1.402 million metric tons, both year on year.

On the other hand, in the first two months of the current year Italian long steel production amounted to 1.915 million metric tons, down 4.9 percent, while flat rolled product output increased by 5.2 percent to 2.687 million metric tons, both year on year.
