Italy’s steel exports to non-EU countries up 27.4% in Jan-May

According to the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first five months of the current year Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries amounted to 2.626 million metric tons, down by 42.1 percent, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations totaled 2.505 million metric tons, up 27.4 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2011.

In particular, in the given period Italy's long steel imports from non-EU countries totaled 205,000 mt, down 37.3 percent, while flat steel imports from such countries amounted to 1,031,000 mt, down 59.6 percent, both year on year. In addition, Italian long steel exports to non-EU desinations reached 841,000 mt, up 49.9 percent, while flat steel exports to these destinations totaled 900,000 mt, increasing by 31.2 percent, both year on year.
