Italy's new passenger car registrations amounted to 136,109 units in May, down eight percent year on year, according to the Italian automotive industry association Anfia.
In the January-May period of the current year, Italian new car registrations fell 11.3 percent to 608,579 units compared to the first five months of 2012, when the new car registration figure had already recorded a year-on-year decrease of over 20 percent.
Meanwhile, a weak but still positive indication comes from the new orders figure, as in April and May new passenger car orders in the Italian market increased respectively by six percent and three percent compared to the corresponding months of 2012. However, new orders for passenger cars in the Italian market in the January-May period of the current year were down over 10 percent year on year, amounting to about 591,000 units.
