Italy’s long steel exports outside EU slows in September

According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first nine months of current year Italy's steel exports to non-EU counties reached 4.431 million metric tons, up 25.2 percent, while its steel imports from non-EU countries totaled 4.577 million metric tons, down 38.1 percent, both compared to the same period of 2011.

Long steel exports in the abovementioned period reached 1.444 million mt, up 45.9 percent compared to the 57.3 percent growth of January-August, meaning that in September the non-EU export activity recorded a slowdown with about 91,000 mt exported. On the other hand, flat steel exports reached 1.641 million mt, due to a 31.9 percent y-o-y increase compared to a 30.9 percent hike in Jan-Aug. The only negative export trend is recorded by first manufacturing products, shipment volumes of which was down 0.9 percent y-o-y compared to a 2.7 percent decline in Jan-Aug.
