Proceedings have successfully concluded for the approval of the new pollution and environmental program of Taranto, Italy-based integrated steel plant Ilva, subsidiary of Riva Group.

"It is a milestone for the city of Taranto and for the whole region," said Lorenzo Nicastro, from Apulia Region Ministry of Environment. "Today is the first day of a new era for the relationship between the city and the steelmaking facility, because the new program introduces more restrictive pollution quotas, in line with state-of-the-art technologies. We asked and obtained improvements to current operational conditions on several crucial issues," he stated.

Ilva is the biggest integrated steelmaking plant in Italy and in Europe. It employs 11,695 workers, has an annual production capacity of 11.5 million mt and covers a surface area of more than 10 square kilometers.
