According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the January-August period this year Italy's steel imports reached 9,554 million metric tons, decreasing by 24.3 percent, while its steel exports totaled 12.552 million metric tons, up 9.3 percent, both compared to the same period of previous year. Accordingly, Italy recorded a surplus of 2.998 million mt in its external steel trade for the first eight months of the current year.
