Italy’s construction sector output falls to 10-year low in September

In September this year, the seasonally adjusted output index for the Italian construction sector fell by eight percent month on month, after having increased by 5.3 percent in August over July, as announced by Istat, Italy’s national statistics office. The index for the July-September quarter decreased by two percent compared to the previous quarter. In September, the seasonally adjusted output index value of 74.7 points for Italian construction was the lowest level recorded by Istat since it began compiling such data in 2002.
 
In September of the current year, the calendar adjusted index of production in the Italian construction industry was down 17.8 percent compared with September 2011, while in the first nine months of the year the index declined by 14 percent on year-on-year basis.
