According to the Italian automotive industry association (Anfia), Italy's new car registrations amounted to 109,178 units in September this year, down 25.7 percent year on year. In the first nine months of 2012, the Italian new car registration figure totaled 1,090,627 units, down 20.5 percent year on year.

Commenting on the September figure, Anfia president Roberto Vavassori stated, “This is the 10th consecutive double digit year-on-year decrease. Although we hope the country will exit the recession starting from 2013, we would remind the government that it has to intervene quickly in order to solve several problems which are undercutting the competitiveness of the Italian manufacturing industry.”
