In September this year, the turnover of Italian industry was down 4.2 percent month on month and 5.4 percent year on year, according to ISTAT, Italy's national statistics office.
In September, on month-on-month basis, the seasonally-adjusted turnover index in Italian industry decreased 4.7 percent for instrumental goods, 4.5 percent for intermediate goods, 1.5 percent for consumer goods and 9.6 percent for energy.
In the given month, the metals and metal product manufacturing sector (excluding equipment and machinery) registered the strongest negative year-on-year variations, down 15.5 percent for the seasonally adjusted revenue index and down 18.4 percent for the new orders index.
With regard to total orders for Italian industry, in September this year there was a month-on-month decrease of four percent and a year-on-year fall of 12.8 percent.
In the July-September quarter, the Italian industry turnover index was down 0.4 percent, while the Italian industry orders index increased 0.7 percent, both compared to the previous quarter.
Finally, in January-September, the turnover index for Italian industry decreased 4.4 percent, while the orders index was down 10.4 percent, both compared to the same period of 2011.
