According to ISTAT, Italy's national statistics office, in May this year the turnover of Italian industry was down 0.5 percent month on month and 2.7 percent year on year.
In May, on month-on-month basis, the seasonally-adjusted turnover index in Italy decreased 5.6 percent for instumental goods, while it was up 0.6 percent for intermediate goods, up two percent for consumer goods and increased by 1.5 percent for energy.
In the sector of the metal industry and metal products manufacturing (excluding equipment and machineries), the year-on-year variation showed the most negative variation in terms of the seasonally adjusted revenue index, down 10.5 percent year on year, and the second worst in terms of the new orders index, down 8.6 percent year on year.
With regard to total orders for Italian industry, in May this year there was a month-on-month increase of 1.7 percent and a year-on-year fall of 9.4 percent.
In the March-May period, the average Italian industry turnover index value was down 0.7 percent, while the average value of the Italian industry orders index decreased 1.7 percent, both compared to the previous three-month period.
Finally, in January-May the turnover index of Italian industry decreased by three percent, while the orders index decreased by 11.2 percent, year on year.
