Italian metal industry revenues and new orders down in April

According to ISTAT, Italy's national statistics office, in April this year the turnover of Italian industry was down 0.5 percent month on month and 4.1 percent year on year.

In April, on month-on-month basis, the seasonally-adjusted turnover index in Italy decreased nine percent for energy, 1.9 percent for intermediate goods and 1.7 percent for consumer goods. Meanwhile, it grew 7.5 percent for instrumental goods.

In the metals and metal products manufacturing industry (excluding equipment and machinery), the year-on-year variation was down significantly in April both for the seasonally adjusted revenue index (-11.5 percent) and new orders index (-13.1 percent).

With regard to total orders for Italian industry, in April this year there was a month-on-month decline of 1.9 percent and a year-on-year fall of 12.3 percent.

In the three months ended in April, the average Italian industry turnover index value was down 0.2 percent, while the average value of the Italian industry new orders index decreased 4.7 percent, both compared to the previous three-month period.
