Italian crude steel production up slightly in January-February

According to the Italian steel producers association Federacciai, in February this year crude steel production in Italy amounted to 1.973 million metric tons, up 1.2 percent year on year. The output has been increasing on year-on-year basis since last October, though at a slower pace compared to the last few months of 2016.
 
February's production volume is in line with February 2015's output of 1.97 million metric tons, but is lower compared to the 2.179 million metric tons recorded in February 2014 and the 2.121 million mt registered in February 2013.
 
In the first two months of the current year, Italian crude steel production amounted to 3.798 million metric tons, increasing by 0.8 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in January this year Italy's long steel output amounted to 858,000 metric tons, increasing by 11.9 percent year on year. In the same period, Italian flat steel output amounted to 952,000 metric tons, rising by 7.7 percent year on year.
