In the January-April period of the current year, the steelmaking subsidiaries of Ukrainian steel producer Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD) produced a total of 2.244 million mt of pig iron, up eight percent compared to the same period of last year. In addition, the subsidiaries' crude steel output in the given period increased by two percent compared to the corresponding period of 2010, rising to 2.345 million mt. In the first four months of 2011, ISD companies registered a seven percent increase in their finished steel production year on year to 2.279 million mt, while their overall sinter output went up by four percent year on year to 3.287 million mt.
In particular, in January-April, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) saw a four percent increase in its crude steel production to 1.252 million mt and a 16 percent increase in its finished steel production to 1.277 million mt.
The crude steel output of Dzerzhinsky Steel Works (Dneprovsky) in the given period was unchanged year on year at 1.093 million mt, while its finished steel output decreased by two percent year on yeasr to 1.002 million mt.
Alchevsk Coking Plant saw its coke production fall by 13 percent year on year to 973,000 mt in January-April 2011.
In the first four months of 2011, Dniepropetrovsk Tube Works increased its steel pipe production by 44 percent year on year to 38,800 mt.
