In September this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased by a slight margin of 0.6 percent compared to August and were up 8.3 percent year on year, totaling 39.4 million metric tons.
According to the information released by Port Hedland Port Authority, in September of the current year iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 33.8 million metric tons, declining by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month and up 13.4 percent year on year. South Korea and Japan followed China in September, receiving 2.12 million mt and 2.09 million mt respectively.
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
