On December 26, Rio Tinto's majority-stake subsidiary Montreal, Canada-based The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) has announced that the railway service and associated activities are being gradually restored, following repair of damage caused by last week's heavy rains to the railway line between Sept-Îles and Labrador City.

IOC's operations in Labrador City will revert to normal production levels as soon as possible, a company statement said, adding that ship loading activities in Sept-Îles are continuing with available finished product.

IOC is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada, operating a mine, concentrator and pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Îles, Quebec. Its shareholders are Mitsubishi Corporation (26.18 percent), Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corporation (15.10 percent) and Rio Tinto (58.72 percent).
