Iron and steel scrap exports from the US surge in February

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,032,912 mt in February, which represents an 86.9 percent surge month-on-month and a 4.8 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in February, with 262,057 mt, which is up a substantial 148.6 percent month-on-month but down 33 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in January include: India, with 146,091 mt; Canada, with 97,030 mt; Taiwan, with 92,720 mt; and Korea, with 89,533 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $246.4 million in February, a 54.7 percent increase compared to January but a 29.2 percent decrease compared to February 2015.
