The Ukrainian pipe producer Interpipe Corporation (Interpipe) has announced its intention to invest more than $35 million to power its new electric steel plant Interpipe Steel using high voltage cable.

Interpipe Steel will be the first mill in Ukraine to be driven by thermoelectric power, and is to fully satisfy Interpipe's needs in crude steel. Electrical power will be supplied underground to the plant using a twin-circuit cable line with a voltage of 300kV.

The new mill, worth $600 million, is being constructed at the premises of Interpipe's Nizhnedneprovsk Pipe Works (NDTZ) plant. Construction was started in February of last year and will take 26 months to complete.

All necessary equipment is being supplied by Italian firm Danieli.
