The World Trade Organization (WTO) committee on safeguards has announced that the Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI) has initiated an investigation on the extension of safeguard duties on imports of I-beams and H-beams of other alloy steel classified under the HS codes ex. 7228.70.10.00 and ex. 7228.70.90.00.

The investigation launched upon the complaint lodged by local producer PT. Gunung Garuda covers the period between May 2014 and April 2017. The complaint was based on the claim that the mentioned imports showed an increase during the period of May 2016-April 2017 compared to the previous year; therefore, the safeguard measures remained necessary to prevent the domestic industry from incurring serious injury.
