Two major Indian steelmakers, Tata Steel and JSW Steel Limited (JSW), have announced significant output increases for November this year.
Accordingly, Tata Steel has announced that in November its total steel sales increased by 35 percent to 498,000 metric tons, up from 370,000 metric tons in November 2008, due to a 13 percent increase year on year in its long product sales and a 56 percent rise in its flat product sales.
In the month in question, Tata Steel's hot metal production increased by two percent to 588,000 metric tons, while its crude steel output also rose two percent, reaching 526,000 metric tons, both compared to November 2008. In November this year, Tata Steel's saleable steel output rose 16 percent year on year to 525,000 metric tons.
The month of November also witnessed the best-ever output results for most of Tata Steel's production units, including its ‘H' blast furnace, its two steel melting shops, its new bar mill, hot strip mill and cold rolling mill.
Meanwhile, JSW also posted a significant year-on-year increase of 123 percent in its crude steel production in November. Thus the steelmaker's crude steel output in the month in question reached 480,000 metric tons, while its flat rolled product production rose 94 percent to 315,000 metric tons and its long product output amounted to 68,000 metric tons, climbing by 197 percent, both compared to November 2008.
In the April-November period of 2009, JSW's crude steel output totaled 3.85 million metric tons, increasing by 52 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
