India’s steel production increase by 8.7 percent in April

India’s steel production in April this year, the first month of current financial year of 2017-18, totaled 8.43 million mt, up 8.7 percent compared to corresponding month of 2016, according to a report issued by India’s Ministry of Steel.
 
The report, however, also noted that production in April was down 8.6 percent when compared to March this year - the last month of the financial year 2016-17.
 
The report said Indian finished steel exports in April are estimated at 747,000 mt, up 142 percent year on year but down 54 percent compared to March.
