India’s steel output shows increase

India's total production of finished steel for the April 2004-February 2005 period rose 3.4% year on year to 34.75 million tons. On the other hand, total pig iron production was 2.65 million tons, a 890'000 ton decrease from the previous year. The consumption of finished steel above-mentioned period increased 6.3%, from 28.87 million tons to 30.7 million tons. An increase in domestic demand caused steel exports during the eleven-month period to tumble 25.11% year on year to 2.65 million tons.
