India’s largest iron ore miner NMDC Limited will commence construction of a 4 million mt per year iron ore beneficiation plant entailing an investment of $171 million within the next few months, a company official said on Tuesday, May 23.

He said that the beneficiation plant will be located at its Bacheli mines in central Indian province of Chhattisgarh and construction will start shortly as all mandatory approval including environmental clearances has been received from the central government earlier this month.

In the second phase, NMDC Limited is planning to construct a slurry pipeline connecting its Bacheli beneficiation plant to Nagarmar also in Chhattisgarh province where the company is constructing a 3 million mt per year steel mill and expects to start commercial production later this year, the official added.

Mandatory approvals and environmental clearances for the slurry pipeline is still awaited as the pipeline will run for most part of its length through forests of the province, he added.
