India’s Karnataka state bans iron ore exports from certain ports

The government of the Indian state of Karnataka has banned iron ore exportation from certain ports. India is an important iron ore supplier for the Chinese iron ore spot market, and so this measure could influence Chinese iron ore imports. So far, however, the ban in question only affects 10 small ports, and so its influence on the Chinese spot market is limited.

An official from a Chinese state-owned company involved in importing iron ore from India said the measure only involves 10 percent of total Indian iron ore exports, added that further observation is needed to see how it influences China's imports.
