India’s JSW Energy completes launch of power plant in Maharashtra

JSW Energy, part of the India-based JSW Group, has announced that it has started commercial operations of the fourth 300 MW unit at its power plant in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra as of October 16, 2011.
 
With the launch of this new unit, the entire 1,200 MW thermal power plant has become fully operational, supplying uninterrupted power to the state grid. This is the first power project of over 1,000 MW to be set up in the state of Maharashtra by a private sector company after the Electricity Act, 2003.
 
JSW Energy also stated that it has resumed operations of two 135 MW units in the Barmer power project on October 12, 2011, using lignite from the Kapurdi reserves.
