India's finished steel consumption totaled 59.08 million mt in the first nine months of the current fiscal year (started April 1), indicating a 4.7 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in December last year amounted to 6.93 million mt, increasing by 17.3 percent compared to November and increasing by 1.2 percent year on year.
According to the data, the country's finished steel production fell by 1.4 percent year on year to 68.04 million mt in the April-December period of last year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted a decrease by 4.3 percent in finished steel production to 7.2 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 6.1 percent to 7.0 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 9.8 percent to 2.0 million mt, all year on year.
