India's finished steel consumption up 2.8 percent in April-October

India's finished steel consumption totaled 48.09 million mt  in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (started April 1), indicating a 2.8 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel. India’s total finished steel consumption in October this year amounted to 7.11 million mt, decreasing by 0.5 percent compared to September and falling by 1.4 percent year on year.
 
According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 10.4 percent year on year to 57.51 million mt in the April-October period of the current year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 23.4 percent in finished steel production to 6.73 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 11.7 percent to 6.02 million mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 10.9 percent to 1.68 million mt, all year on year.
