India's finished steel consumption rises slightly in April-November

India's finished steel consumption totaled 48.29 million mt in the first eight months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), with just a 0.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel.

According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 5.3 percent year on year to 53.40 million mt in the April-November period. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL recorded a rise of 5.9 percent in finished steel output compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year with 6.95 million mt, while the finished steel output of RINL rose by 2.6 percent to 1.77 million mt and Tata Steel's finished steel output increased by 22.4 percent to 4.82 million mt, both year on year.
