India's finished steel consumption totaled 6.01 million mt in the first month of the current fiscal year (started April 1, 2017), indicating a 3.4 percent year-on-year increase but a 22 percent decline on month-on-month basis, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel.
According to the data, in the given month, the country's finished steel production rose by 8.7 percent year on year to 8.43 million mt, but was down by 8.6 percent month on month. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL posted an increase of 14.1 percent in finished steel production to 1.01 million mt, while the finished steel output of Tata Steel rose by a margin of 19.7 percent to 906,000 mt, and RINL’s finished steel output increased by 42.8 percent to 277,000 mt, all year on year.
