India’s crude steel production up 2.2 percent in May

India’s crude steel production in May this year totaled 8.163 million mt, up 2.2 percent year on year, as announced by the Ministry of Steel on Tuesday, May 6.
 
However, according to the steel ministry data, crude steel production in May was down 0.8 percent compared to April this year when production amounted to 8.228 million mt.
 
Production of finished steel in May reached 9.066 million mt, 4.4 percent higher year on year.
 
Production of finished steel in the first two months of the current 2017-18 financial year is estimated at 17.546 million mt, up 6.7 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year, the steel ministry report said.
