India-based automotive steel manufacturer Adhunik Metaliks plans to commission a 1.2 million mt pellet plant in Jamshedpur, India for commercial sales in the east of the country which is India's main iron ore production region, according to media reports. The plant will meet the need of sponge iron units and steelmakers using blast furnace across Orissa, West Bengal and Jharkhand.

The company will focus on value addition of iron ore fines from its Ghatkuri mines due to lower demand from the auto industry. Adhunik Metaliks expects to reach 90 percent capacity at the pellet plant within five months, planning to raise the capacity to 1.6 million mt.

Adhunik Metaliks will focus on developing its mineral base. It stated that it has also started shipments from its captive iron ore mines at Kulum recently.
