Indian motor vehicle output down 4.1 percent in May

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in May this year decreased 4.1 percent as compared to May 2012 with 1,737,548 vehicles produced.

In the first two months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), motor vehicle sales in India decreased by 0.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, while the country's passenger vehicle sales during April-May declined by 8.56 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registered a fall of 5.2 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in the first two months of the current fiscal year India's total motor vehicle exports fell by 8.6 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year increase of 7.3 percent in April-May this year, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 19.6 percent, both compared to April-May 2012.
