Indian domestic motor vehicle sales down slightly in April

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in April this year decreased 2.8 percent as compared to April 2012 with 1,721,455 vehicles produced. In the latest Indian fiscal year (from April 1, 2012 to March 31,2013), India's motor vehicle output had increased 1.2 percent over the previous fiscal year.
 
In April of the current year, motor vehicle sales in India decreased by 0.3 percent year on year, while the country's passenger vehicle sales in April declined by 8.2 percent and commercial vehicles segment registered growth of 0.75 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, in April this year India's total motor vehicle exports fell by 9.14 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent in April, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 11.1 percent, both compared to April 2012.
