Ukrainian steelmaker Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich), a subsidiary of Ukraine's largest vertically-integrated mining and steel group Metinvest, has announced that it is investing more than UAH 52 million ($4.33 million) in the modernization of roll-grinding machines in its sheet-rolling mill 3000. The renovation of machines will allow the processing of mill rolls with weights of up to 120 mt, which will be unique among Ukrainian companies.

Currently, the modernization of the two first machines from German company Waldrich Siegen has been finished. They are intended for the processing of rolls from the roughing and finishing group of stands by grinding with the aim of removing "wear hardening" and forming the shape of rolls.

The accuracy of the surface processing has been increased twofold in the modernized machines. The renovation of the machines allows improvement of the stability and of the quality of the produced rolled metal products.
