Argentina’s auto production decreased 29.1 percent to 25,625 units, year-on-year, and 36.9 percent month-on-month, the country’s automotive association, Adefa, said in a report this week.
Sales of cars from dealers reached 34,128 units, a 27 percent decrease year-on-year and 17.5 percent month-on-month.
Adefa said January was an atypical month for the local automotive industry, since 10 of 11 automakers decided to stop production for an extended vacation period. In the last few years, automakers paused for vacations in distinct periods between January and February, Adefa noted.
As a result of the limited production capacity in January, when just one steelmaker was operating, Argentinian auto exports fell 61.1 percent year-on-year and 73.8 percent month-on-month, reaching 7,620 units.
