ICCI criticizes allowance of steel imports from India

The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) reportedly criticized the Pakistani government decision on allowance of steel products imported from India, claiming that the imports would cause material injury to the local market. The complaints about the decision of the government emerged due to the ambiguity of the coverage of the decision. The notice released by the government does not specify which steel products are covered by the decision. Sources report that galvanized steel sheets are needed in earthquake-affected areas in Pakistan, and ICCI demands that the government renew its decision accordingly. The fact that the coverage of the recent decision is unclear may cause importers to import other steel products, instead of galvanized steel sheet, which the local market needs the most.
