Hyundai Motor Co. Tuesday announced that it will produce the all-new Hyundai Elantra at its Montgomery, Alabama plant.  With the decision to shift production of the Elantra to Alabama from Ulsan, South Korea, Hyundai will be producing more than half of its US sales volume in the US.

The car will be the third Hyundai model built in the United States, following the Santa Fe crossover and the 2011 Sonata sedan.

"Hyundai's philosophy is to build our vehicles where we sell them, and with the addition of the Elantra to our US production mix we now manufacture our three most popular models right here in the US," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.

According to Hyundai Motor America, a subsidiary of Korea-based Hyundai Motor Co., more than 1.2 million of its vehicles have been made in America since its Alabama plant went online in 2005.
